Don Giovanni 33 Temporada d'Òpera i Ballet

After the programming of Così fan tutte and Le nozze di Figaro, the Teatre Principal inaugurates its 33rd Opera and Ballet Season with the première of a new production of Don Giovanni, hereby completing the magical trilogy executed by Mozart and the librettist Da Ponte, one of the most inspired and popular highlights of all lyrical history.

Mozart’s creation occupies the zenith among the many operas that have dealt with the insatiable seducer. Composed at the prime of his extraordinary abilities, the genius from Salzburg is capable of weaving the score and libretto into this dramma giocoso, where humour does not hide the tragedy of a man doomed by an infinite flirtation. The stage direction has been entrusted to Paco Azorín (a regular of great opera houses across the country) who offers a contemporary vision that delves into the reasons for the protagonist's sexual voracity. A point of focus that contrasts with the historicist musical path followed by Cristóbal Soler who, with this production, manages to recover all the richness of the original staves. A first-rate cast headed by Ainhoa Arteta, María José Moreno, Nicola Ulivieri, Ugo Guagliardo, or the Mallorcans Susana Cordón and Tomeu Bibiloni- to provide an outlet for this passionate story that is as complex and ambiguous as it is human.
