Puccini's opera is one of the great symbols of impossible love and the eternal feminine. It also derives from intercultural barriers. The Italian composer created a masterful score (with anthological arias like Un bel dí vedremo) that underlines the emotional labyrinth that the characters are trapped in. The reckless Cio-Cio-San is played by the Korean soprano Sae-Kyung Rim, who is very experienced in this role (she has already upheld the role in the Leipzig Opera, Arena di Verona and the Wiener Staatsoper). She is accompanied by a small cast; Lorena Valero, Eduardo Aladrén, Javier Franco and the Mallorcans José Manuel Sánchez, Pablo López and Marga Cloquell. Another of the great attractions of this production by Los Amigos Canarios de la Ópera is the musical direction by Antonio Méndez, who debuts at the head of the Sinfónica de las Islas Baleares (Symphony Orchestra of the Balearic Islands). Recently appointed chief conductor of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife (Symphony Orchestra of Tenerife), the young Mallorcan maestro has already lead ensembles such as the Wiener Symphoniker, the Deutsche Symphonie Orchestra Berlin, the Weimar Staatskapelle and the Orquesta Nacional de España (National Orchestra of Spain). The experienced Mario Pontiggia is responsible for the scenery.
