Repeating, dying, and repeating again. Classic dance becomes exciting and ennobled through exhaustion. After fourteen years as a dancer in the ‘Companyia Nacional de Dansa’, Mar Aguiló puts an end to her career with the creation of Swan. Along with Marion Barbeau, the first dancer in the Paris Opera, Aguiló presents an emotive and harsh homage to the contemporary performer who displays a tragic and, at the same time, liberating truth about the ideas of practice and ‘répétiton’.

In order to secure her place as a dancer and to thrill the audience, a performer must relate, practice and begin again with the process until she knows every sentence by heart, until her body moves independently on its own. In the manner of the white act in The Lake, SWAN means a spiritual exercise of infinite repetitions which transcend technique with the aim of discovering the swan emerging from, rejoicing in, and expressing itself in the automatized rhythm of the dancer’s exhausted body.

In Teatros del Canal 2021, these two artists released STELLA; now, in a turning point of their lives, Mar Aguiló (choreographer) and Marion Barbeau (performer) offer us this personal and contemporary work of classic dance after an entire life dedicated to the search of excellence in the other’s eyes.
