La Calòrica is back presenting a great, frivolous, and rabidly politic comedy by Joan Yago about the Congress of Viena in 1814.

The Austrian Minister for Foreign Affairs Klemens von Metternich is aware of the importance of holding revolutions back before they even start. To achieve this goal, he invites the heads of the Russian, the English, and the Prussian states for them to meet in Vienna. He could not imagine the huge repercussions of the news about this congress on the governments of the rest of the world; initially a simple meeting, the congress was going to become a multitudinous party that lasted for more than nine months.

It is not easy to separate territorial negotiations from love conflicts, or ideological debates from the simple battles of egos. It is hard to distinguish a celebration from a labor.

In the meantime, the champagne bottles are running out, the food trays are scarce, and the return of an old enemy reminds us, for a moment, that things could be different. The Belgian representative Charles-Joseph de Ligne writes in a letter: “The congress is not making any progress; it is rather dancing.”
