Yo soy una fiesta By La Resistència Teatre

Do you prefer a party to forget or a party to remember? This show by La Resistència Teatre was awarded with the Premi Art Jove 2023 de les Illes Balears.

After her granny’s sudden death, Ángela decides to confront her pain in an uncommon way by celebrating her absent grandmother’s birthday party. This event brings forth a conflict that she had been constantly denying: not only has she lost her grandmother, but she also lacks a mother. Her friend Cami, who sometimes seems to be Ángela herself and all the women at the same time, helps her realize that the party hides questions that she needs to confront. 

Yo soy una fiesta means a play that explores, amongst calamari and confetti, important themes such as the relationship with grandmothers, identity, mourning, and the role of mothers. It follows a contemporary non-linear structure. Through its fragmented scenes, the audience becomes aware of the hidden aspects of this surrealist, but at the same time quotidian scheme. 

The staging presents bodies in constant movement, dancing, suffering, speaking, laughing, and crying. Moreover, the play is improved by a set of disruptive visuals and voices that seem to come from far. It is a drama disguised as a comedy: even though it makes you laugh and empathize with the characters, the background is deeply sensitive.
