Francis Poulenc composed La Voix Humaine in 1958 with a libretto by Jean Cocteau, who was inspired by a namesake theatre play from 1930.

The authors defined this opera as a lyric tragedy for one character (Ella) performed by a soprano.

La voix humaine is a telephonic monologue of a woman with her lover where indifference, sadness, and desperation are sublimely exposed.

New production by Teatre Principal.
