One day, Gregor Samsa wakes up and has been turned into a horrible, disgusting insect. From that moment on, he shuts himself in his bedroom and no longer finds understanding or reassurance from his family or the other people who surround him. Kafka wrote this parable about the emerging dehumanised society in 1912, at the height of industrialisation, where the individual was becoming simply a worker, without a life. The production, created in Prague by the Forman Brothers, combines puppets, actors and music (included as an extra character) and revives the value of tradition, of art in its simplest form as a symbol of the loss of craftsmanship.

The El Espejo Negro theatre company has twenty-years of experience, during which time they have received several prizes, including Max Awards or FETEN Awards for children’s theatre. Their theatre and street shows, which are innovative and technically flawless, have been identified as a new style of puppet theatre. On this occasion, they’re bringing an adult production to Palma, in which the exuberant and subversive star of transvestism, Marianna Travelo, formerly a singer in questionable dive-bars, acts as master of ceremonies of an extraordinary cabaret. Made from foam rubber and glue, she never denies her authentic nature as a puppet and establishes dialogue with various night-time characters. The Andalusian company invites you for laughter, art and provocation.

The puppet theatre show presented by this company is based on the Mozart opera The Magic Flute and contains three stories: that of the young man Tamino, who falls in love with a portrait of Pamina and has to overcome various trials to achieve light and love; that of the Queen of the Night, who wishes to possess the sun circle that Sarastro holds and that of the bird Papageno who only wishes to enjoy the pleasures of life, find a partner like him and have ‘little Papagenos’. The performance aims at entertaining even the youngest children and at the same time allowing them to start out in music and puppets. This version presents the story and theatrical aspect, which are adapted and developed from the point of view of all of its characters.
