Guillem Albà and Joan Arqué intend to stage the bestselling book Canto jo i la muntanya balla (I sing and the mountain dances), by Irene Solà. The story is enacted by Claudia Cedó with the support of Judit Neddermann’s music. We will enjoy a magic text, a hybrid between the physical theatre, the text and live music.
It all begins with a storm, a lightning and Domingo’s death, the peasant poet. Afterwards, Dolceta, who cannot stop laughing while trying to tell the story of the four women that were led to the gallows and hanged there after having been accused of witchery. This is also the story of Sión, who - all by herself- must lead Mia and Hilari far away, up to the mountains, to Matavaques (“the Cowkiller”). Finally, we will find the trumpets of death, disguised in a black and luscious hat, announcing the immutability of the cycle of life.
In Canto jo i la muntanya balla (I sing and the mountain dances) we will hear the voices of men and women, of ghosts and water women, of clouds, mushrooms, hounds and roe deer. They all dwelling the lands ranging from Camprodon to Prats de Molló. This is a frontier land of high mountains that -even beyond legends- keeps its memory of centuries. A memory including the struggle for survival, the persecutions born from ignorance and fanaticism, the memory of fratricidal conflicts, but also a territory that incarnates a beauty that needs no adjectives to be described; it is a fertile soil to let imagination and thought fly free, a place to talk and tell stories, a place, perhaps, to start anew, and, why not, a place for redemption.
