Cris Juanico presents Cançons de Xerxa, a compilation of songs based on the poems by Pere Xerxa, the pseudonym often used by Joan F. López Casasnovas (1952-2022).
Edited as a book-CD, the musician from Ciutadella in Menorca has chosen eleven poems to adapt them into ten folkloric and popular songs. The result is a lucid musical production that sets tradition into modern schemas.
The songs smell like the Mediterranean, with traditional and popular sounds that bring this arrangements closer to the folk, to the Earth, and to the sea. The instrumental set ranges from the acoustic guitar, the Spanish guitar, the guitarron, the electro-acoustic bass, and the percussions; everything blended with other string instruments (double bass, violin, lute) and wind instruments (clarinet and flute).
The final outcome is a folk traditional album, a beam of brilliant songs. This work means an experimental step forward for the artist, a mélange of primitive sounds and modern music, of ancestral and tribal influences and contemporary tones. The album features a rich list of collaborations with different artist from the island such as Frank Pons from Pèl de Gall, Rita Barber, Maria Riudavets, Dolors Boatella, Toni Pastor, or Sergi Cleofé among others.
