One of the most entertaining opéra-bouffe of the repertoire.
The 39th Opera season of the Teatre Principal is going to finish with one of the best-known titles of the opéra-bouffe genre, Don Pasquale. An opera divided in three acts, with Gaetano Donizetti’s music and an Italian libretto by G. Ruffini, even though the composer himself also participated in the writing of the text. What Ruffini and Donzetti really did was to adapt the text of Angelo Anelli’s opera Ser Marco Antonio, created in 1810. It was premiered in Paris in 1843.
Inspired by the commedia dell’arte, Don Pasquale is a comedy about a love mess, in which Don Pasquale seeks to marry his nephew with a rich lady, while the young boy wants to marry his lover, the young and poor Norina.
Produced by the Teatro Regio di Parma (Itàlia) and Ente Luglio Musicale Trapanese
