The stories which happen in El cuaderno de Pitágoras, although fictitious, are inspired by real facts and have been born from life experience of years as a volunteer in prison yard; they have also come from interviews with families and collaborators from different groups who work in several prisons.
A group of inmates participates in the making of a theatrical work, completely created by them, that will culminate with a performance in front of their families.
The tracking of the rehearsal process in a type of Captain’s log * – mistakenly called Cuaderno de Pitágoras – will become the title of this work, which intertwines with others: the struggle to rebuild a dignified life in freedom and the effort to provide for the families in especially complicated and hard circumstances.
From an intimate, unprejudiced fragmented look, at times funny, the spectator will access various plot points inside and outside the walls of prison.
Paqui and Furia are the protagonist of this ensemble story in which we will question the concept of social reintegration by analysing the difficulties, prejudices, and stigmas of anyone who has finished or is finishing their prison sentence.
* Translator’s note: In Spanish the Captain’s log is called Cuaderno de Bitácora, therefore the confusion with Pitágoras.
