The production company La Perla 29 presents Tennessee Williams’ great classic.
El zoo de vidre portrays the experience of an US family in 1930 that, due to the harsh consequences of the economic crash in 1929, crosses the border immersed between the hope for a prosperous future and the scarce possibilities that their current situation offers. In the Wingfield’s small flat, Amanda struggles to achieve a better future for her two young children, Tom and Laura, while suffering from the frustration caused by her husband’s abandonment.
Tom is the narrator of this story about memories and fragments of past experiences. He is a poet who works in a warehouse in order to sustain his family. He nevertheless wishes to live his own life and experience new adventures, escaping from his mother’s smothering overprotection. Laura is his younger sister. She is a shy and introverted girl who only lives for her glass figurines. Her limp entails a huge stigma for her to mingle with the external world and let her romantic illusions loose.
Reality is going to hit hard when Amanda insists on finding a suitor for Laura in a desperate attempt of keeping her children clear of the difficult situations she has endured.
