Two Mallorcan creators are behind this suggestive theatrical proposal. José Martret, responsible for the resounding success last season of the opera L’elisir d’amore, has taken Sebastià Alzamora’s novel, La Malcontenta, to the stage. The restless director, who founded Casa de la Portera in Madrid, considered one of the epicentres of fringe theatre in the capital city, was fascinated by the story of Antònia Suau. La Malcontenta is a portrayal of a strong, yet vulnerable woman. A girl, a young woman who tries to break free from the chains that are tying her down, only to cling to others. A haunting story, full of paths covered with stones and thorns, where the lead defies her fate, which seems to have already been written. It is also the story of bandits in a wild Mallorca, at the beginning of the 19th century, a land of hunger and poverty, a collective map of an era and also the similarity with a particular thief, a free and heartless soul -Joan Durí, and the people who continued to search for bread every day, at any price.
