A beautiful, funny, and elegant comedy by Carlo Goldoni, directed by Eduardo Vasco and with Lorenzo Caprile’s dressings.
This show revives one of the most celebrated comedies of Italian dramaturgy. A merry and elegant muddle with live music that tells us the story of two frenzied families in a competition of appearances. Set in the twenties, and with Lorenzo Caprile’s marvelous dressings, this work criticizes the consumerist excesses of society.
Summer holidays are among those activities that families cannot miss in Livorno, and the last-minute preparations become dramatic as nobody wants to stay home in the city during the hot summer. The dreamt destinations are the placid villas in the Tuscany, with the diversion and pleasant activities that the countryside offers. Life is not full without this season of indolence and rest! But rivalry and jealousy rouse the spirits during the previous days to the departure and, even though courtesy dominates the relationships between the bourgeois families of the city, a crazy competence is going to blow up this harmony.
The mechanism of comedy triumphs in the great Goldoni’s hands. Two gallants in love with the same woman, two women fighting to be in fashion, servants who are amazed in front of this show but at the same time mess their masters up, parents who do not understand anything, and freeloading friends: this is the picture formed by the characters of this comedy.
