L’elisir d’amore is an opera to relish from its first to its last musical note. It belongs to the romatic-belcanto mould and Donizetti’s opera guarantees the enjoyment thanks to its evocative, entertaining and melodic music. It’s just a source of enchantment. This production by the Teatre Principal was conceived for the 33rd Opera Season by the Majorcan stage manager José Martret, promoter of some of the most original theatre projects in our country, such as those from the extinct theatres in Madrid La Casa de la Portera and La Pensión de las Pulgas. He made his operatic debut with L’elisir d’amore following a very original approach: The love story between Nemorino and Adina is set in a hotel located in a Balearic beach back in the sixties. It is also a little homage to Wes Anderson’s Gran Hotel Budapest. For the props Martret has counted on an excellent ally, Lorenzo Caprile, who has been the one designing the costumes for the opera.
