An impeccable monologue with a direct text that makes no concessions. A dramatic text that, nonetheless, frequently enters into comedy. A punch to the ribs of sexism, which is as widely spread as invisible in our society. The original version of Dennis Kelly’s Girls & Boys premiered in January 2018, in the Royal Court Theatre, London; a few months later it opened in New York and last June it came to the Grec Festival Barcelona. It now reaches the Principal, backed by reviews such as the one by The Guardian: ‘Girls & Boys grips with its gradual accumulation of uncertainty and disquiet. As a picture of a corroding love, it touches finely on jealousy between people who care about each other. Yet perhaps Kelly’s most impressive achievement is to move from anecdote to speculation, broadening his play from a singular painful study to real questions about the balance of power between women and men’.
