Within the context of the Holly Week, the Teatre Principal is offering an interpretation of Stabat Mater (1767) by Joseph Haydn as this year’s Easter Concert.
Franz Joseph Haydn (1737-1806) is considered to be the great representative figure of the musical classicism along with Mozart and Beethoven. In Stabat Mater he showcases all his religious sensibility (he was a fervent catholic), portraying Virgin Mary’s suffering at his son’s feet, who agonizes to death on the cross; a perfect allegory of the Universal Mother that suffers for all humanity.
