After ten years of war, Titus Andronicus finally returned to Rome, victorious and with the Gothic queen Tamora and her three offspring as prisoners. After sacrificing, as ordered by the sacred rites, the greatest of them, Titus only aspires to seek tranquility and rest, because under his harsh gesture of a triumphant general, there also lives a man whose soul is fatigued by the harshness of the conflict and the early death of most of his children. Only five remain by his side and, among all of them, he cannot hide his devotion to Lavinia, in whom he sees hope for a future that may perhaps escape the violence that has accompanied him throughout his life.
