Vladivostok is a combination of poems written and spoken by Maria Cabrera that are entirely musical in nature, passing through the body of Irene Fontdevila in an intimate and moving performance. Vladivostok is also the city where the Trans-Siberian Railway ends, after crossing the cold backbone of Russia. The breezy, carnal verses are unravelled from the beginning by the female voice of Maria Cabrera, features of her books of poems La matinada clara (“The Clear Early Morning”) and La ciutat cansada (“The Tired City"). The verses are given a musical backing track courtesy of Irene Fontdevila, who creates a whole host of sensations through her performance that is both clear and enchanting. Incidental music for piano, with some minimalistic electronic undertones that bolsters the naked voice of the verses, both reinforcing them and contradicting them. The result is a sober yet emotional sound that is sensual yet serene: the poetry reinforces the music, the music gently rocks the poetry. This performance is accompanied by the festive rhythms of the band Vàlius.
